Joint CAREC-China & ASEAN-China Digital Economy Workshop
 
 

The Joint CAREC-PRC Digital Economy Workshop on Empowering CAREC Digital Future & 2nd ASEAN-China Digital Economy Workshop will be held in 2 stages from May 20 to June 1, 2024, at both Zijingang Campus and International Campus of Zhejiang University. The workshop is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted by Zhejiang University, and organized by the CiSDG and ZIBS.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the 25th ASEAN-China (10+1) Leaders' Meeting in Nov. 2022, Chinese leaders pledged to implement this program, aiming to cultivate 1,000 digital talents for ASEAN countries over the next three years. To put this assignment into action, Zhejiang University held the inaugural ASEAN-China Digital Economy Workshop from August 12 to September 9 last year. The workshop was included in the mechanism of China-ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting and included in the China's Progress Report on the promotion of build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home.

The Joint CAREC-China Digital Economy Workshop on Empowering CAREC Digital Future & 2nd ASEAN-China Digital Economy Workshop (CCDEW & 2th ACDEW) will be held from May 20 to June 1, 2024, to continue promoting digital economic communication and cooperation between China, ASEAN, and Central Asian countries.

The workshop is jointly organized by Zhejiang University, the Asian Development Bank, and the CAREC Institute. This edition was executed by the Centre for International Studies on Development and Governance, Zhejiang & Zhejiang University (CiSDG), the Zhejiang University International Business School (ZIBS), Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, Graduate School, Office of Global Engagement, and School of Public Affairs of Zhejiang University.

 

 

 

 

36 people have enrolled in the workshop. They come from 3 regions: 19 of them are from CAREC nations (including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan), 15 of them are from ASEAN nations (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Timor-Leste), and 2 of them are from West Asia nation (the United Arab Emirates). Participants come from 3 sectors: 30 participants are government officials, including 17 at the director level and 13 at the division level; 2 are university experts; 4 are senior managers from the industry.

The Workshop is scheduled to last for 2 weeks, including thematic activities, networking sessions, and digital economy-focused industry tours. Curriculum involves digital industrialization, industrial digitalization, digital government and governance and so on. International organizations, government agencies, and first-class universities send scholars and professionals to provide guidance and instruction. During the on-site teaching, the workshop will visit digitalized pioneering enterprises and institutions such as Alibaba Cloud, Hangzhou City Brain, Zhejiang Top Cloud-agri Technology Co., Ltd., China Mobile (Zhejiang) Innovation Research Institute, Zhejiang Toman Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd to experience the progress and innovation brought by digital commerce, digital government, and digital industry.

The opening ceremony of the workshop will be held at 9 a.m. on May 20, 2024, in the Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University. The first half of the workshop (May 20 to May 27) will be held at Zijingang Campus, and the second half (May 28 to June 1) will be held at the International Campus.
