Fostering Global Collaboration: RMIT Study Tour at ZIBS

From March 28 to April 4, the China module of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) study tour was held in ZIBS. Led by Professor CONG Ling Mei, Associate Dean of RMIT Graduate School of Business and Law, alongside Peggy Wang, Shanghai Office Manager, students from nine different countries embarked on this enriching journey with ZIBS iMBA students. From discussions on academic lectures to witnessing firsthand the technological prowess of industry best practices, each encounter left an indelible mark on the participants.

The itinerary was meticulously designed to blend classroom learning with real-world experiences, showcasing the unique essence of Zhejiang enterprises. Visits to renowned companies such as Geely Automobile, Alibaba, Future Stitch, and Bioclub offered invaluable insights into operational strategies, innovation paradigms, and market dynamics.

Beyond the academic realm, the tour facilitated informal discussions and networking opportunities, nurturing friendships and professional connections. From discussions on cross-cultural management to witnessing firsthand the technological prowess of companies such as Geely Auto Group, each encounter left an indelible mark on the participants.

One standout moment was the immersive lecture on cultural communication barriers, where vivid examples illuminated the intricacies of global interaction. Through engaging discussions, students gained a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives and the art of effective communication.
The culmination of the tour was marked by a China-Australia Youth Exchange meeting, symbolizing the collaborative spirit between nations. ZIBS Dean BEN Shenglin and Professor CONG Ling Mei presided over a dialogue on business environments, cross-cultural dynamics, and bilateral cooperation opportunities. Besides, students also attended the session organized by Zhejiang Western Returnees and Scholars Association, gained insights from Chinese returnees from Australia, and got cultural experience of Chinese tea culture and calligraphy.

Exploring beyond corporate landscapes, visits to cultural landmarks like West Lake and Santan Yinyue Island provided a holistic understanding of China's rich heritage. The excursion was a blend of cultural appreciation and leisure, reinforcing bonds among participants.

The tour underscored ZIBS pivotal role as a nexus for global collaboration and academic excellence. As the RMIT delegation departed, echoes of gratitude reverberated, with students expressing profound appreciation for the immersive experience and the warm hospitality extended by their hosts.

The study tour to China was a phenomenal experience, curated by the combined efforts of Ling Mei, Kate, and ZIBS faculty and staff. Incorporating a multitude of both cultural and professional business experiences, this tour really stands as a benchmark for other study tours. The cultural experiences, consisting of both historical landmarks and an abundance of exceptional culinary allowed us to enhance our understanding of China's rich history, traditions, and way of life, with the famous West Lake show standing out as a highlight of this tour. On the other hand, the business part of this visit to China presented us with the opportunity to visit giant global corporations such as Geely and Alibaba, helping us to expand our professional network, build strong relationships, and discover how businesses in China operate. Finally, the exposure to the ZIBS campus, its lecturers, and students further allowed us to have a taste of Chinese education from one of China's best universities while simultaneously allowing us to build relationships. This study tour was an unforgettable experience that I will fondly look back on for years to come.

China was breathtaking. I'm blown away by how much people embrace their rich heritage and how they treat guests with such warmth. A big thanks to Ling Mei, Kate, and the rest of the ZIBS team for organising this trip. They not only provided us with an academic insight into China but also its vibrant cultural and business landscape. Kate's exceptional kindness in addressing our daily challenges transcended the role of a coordinator to that of a friend. I’m glad to have met some amazing people from different parts of the world and to have built a personal connection with each one of them. I can't wait to relive all the China memories through the photos and videos I've taken!
