On the evening of June 24, 2022, the second session of "Masters' Cloud Lectures" of the ZIBS iMBA program was successfully delivered online in the ZIBS WeChat video channel. ZHANG Ruidong, Visiting Professor at ZIBS, Tenured Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the United States, and Associate Editor of the international journal Blockchain: Research and Applications, gave a lecture titled "Distributed Manufacturing as a Strategy Tackling the Regime Shifts in Global Supply Chains".

Professor ZHANG pointed out that the era of Globalization 2.0 has arrived. Labor-intensive supply chains are rapidly transferring to global or regional low-cost centers, and capital- and technology-intensive global supply chains are flowing back to their place of origin. China's position as a world manufacturing center is facing profound changes. With its advancement, 3D printing as a new processing technology in intelligent manufacturing is making traditional batched, standardized production transform into localized, rapid and customized one. It is bringing about a fundamental change to the production pattern and lending support to the idea of "separation and customization" in distributed manufacturing. Citing the VeriTX platform as an example, Professor ZHANG introduced the framework of decentralized distributed manufacturing based on blockchain technology, and provided corresponding insights as to what development strategies China's manufacturing should opt for to cope with the changes.

Professor BEN Shenglin, Dean of ZIBS, participated in the interaction as a surprise guest. Mr. BEN pointed out that in a development environment which focuses its strategy on global manufacturing, enterprises are crossing regional and even national boundaries to seek excellent partners and resources on a global scale. Distributed manufacturing can reduce international logistics costs and contribute to the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and environmental protection. Finally, Professor BEN welcomed the attendees to pay more attention to the ZIBS "Masters' Cloud Lectures". He encouraged them to think globally, to work with bright minds, and to connect the world and shape the future together with ZIBS!
