ZIBS Delegation Visited South Africa

From August 14 to 18, the ZIBS delegation was invited to visit South Africa to strengthen existing ecological partnerships and develop new international cooperation opportunities. The delegation visited the University of Venda (UNIVEN) and the Gordon Institute of Business Sciences (GIBS) of the University of Pretoria, where the group also met and discussed with other distinguished local representatives such as the Human Science Research Council (HSRC), Nelson Mandela University (NUM), the University of Johannesburg, Adanian Labs, etc.

On August 14, the ZIBS delegation visited UNIVEN in Limpopo Province, South Africa, and was warmly welcomed by representatives of UNIVEN, including Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Bernard Nthambeleni, and Executive Dean of Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law, Modimowabarwa Kanyan. The Vice-Chancellor of UNIVEN delivered a keynote speech, warmly welcoming the arrival of the ZIBS delegation.  Prof. Kanyan and Prof. BEN Shenglin delivered brief speeches expressing their expectations for future cooperation. The Vice President and Register of the UNIVEN also attended the event. 

Both parties have conducted in-depth conversations on the student exchange, iMBA course modules, and joint research projects between ZIBS and UNIVEN and have agreed on a long-term future collaboration.

On August 15, the delegation visited the proposed site for the Building of the new Business School of University of Venda in the Machado-Musina Economic Zone en route to Polokwane, which shall be completed by the year 2028. The group also paid a visit to the town’s local market for economic and developmental knowledge.

 

     
 

2023/08/ 16

On August 16, the Gordon Institute of Business Sciences (GIBS), University of Pretoria in Johannesburg hosted the ZIBS delegation, where the group was warmly welcomed by Dean Morris Mthomberni and GIBS representatives. Dean Morris introduced the GIBS philosophy, networks, and educational developments over the past two decades to the ZIBS delegation and provided meaningful insights for mutual parties.

After the site visit, an academic seminar between GIBS and ZIBS was held to discuss the two schools’ potential working fields, which led to successful fruits in multiple areas.

On August 17, the ZIBS delegation met with representatives from the Human Science Research Council (HSRC), Nelson Mandela University, University of Johannesburg, and Adanian Labs at GIBS campus to communicate on serving the 280 million people in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) under the framework of China-Africa Strategic Cooperation.

In the afternoon, ZIBS delegation member from Ant Group arranged a meeting with representatives from Vodafone to collaborate in fields such as digital finance, telecom, and the 10×1000 project.

 

         
 

         
 


Besides the academia exchange, the ZIBS delegation also paid business visits to China Construction Bank, Johannesburg Branch (CCB JHB), China-Africa Development Fund (CAD), and TECMEC (acquired by Wepon Group) and the Adanian Labs. The corporate exchange reflected the practical elements of ZIBS ecosystem, where certain connections were shared among Zhejiang International Chamber of Commerce for the Private Sector and Zhejiang Africa Service Center (ZASC) and ZIBS China Africa Center.

 

       
 

By actively seeking global opportunities, ZIBS continues expanding its networks among international exchange, digital finance, oversea centers, etc. Assistant Dean LEI Linan, WANG Cheng and Prof. WEN Wu had also attended the Africa events above. Meanwhile, we also congratulated South Africa for hosting the 15th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit this month!
