On February 28, in San José, Costa Rica and Haining, China, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) and the Zhejiang University School of International Business (ZIBS) signed a memorandum of understanding to promote and strengthen cooperation in the field of research, knowledge generation and academic exchange.
¨The signing of this agreement adds to our objective of taking Latin American thought to different latitudes through knowledge diplomacy, academic exchange and cooperation with high-level Chinese institutions, which allows us to contribute to the dialogue and analysis of the global problems of an increasingly interconnected and complex world" affirmed Dr. Altmann-Borbón, General Secretary of FLACSO.
For his part, Dr. Ben Shenglin, President of ZIBS, said that “it is necessary to promote South-South dialogue. Latin America and China can only build a harmonious future through cooperation and mutual understanding. We welcome Latin American youth to our school. They are the bridge that connects China with this very special region of the world. Cooperation with FLACSO will help us maintain these bridges and allow us to understand each other's needs more deeply, mainly through relevant joint projects, especially as regards the study of contemporary China.¨
In April 2022, ZIBS inaugurated its Latin American Center with the presence of the illustrious former president of the Federative Republic of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, where it was recorded that the future of both regions is intertwined, being the reform of global governance, innovation, sustainability and recovery of the environment the path elements for joint development.
Since 2021, with the creation of the Chair in Contemporary China, FLACSO has sought to generate inputs for decision-makers, both public and private, from academic institutions, governments, and civil society in Latin America and the Caribbean with an interest in current affairs of the People's Republic of China.
