ZIBS Welcome Ceremony 2024: Grit For Sustainable Progress

On September 8, ZIBS Welcome Ceremony 2024, themed Grit For Sustainable Progress, was successfully held at Auditorium of International Campus, ZJU. Over 300 new students from around the world gathered to embark on a new chapter of their journey.


LI Hanying, Dean of International Campus, QU Lijuan, Vice Dean of International Campus, FANG Xingdong, Executive Vice Dean of the College of Media and International Culture, WU Fei, Vice Dean of the College of Computer Science and Technology and Qiushi Distinguished Professor, WANG Yufen, Executive Vice Dean of International College, QU Haidong, Vice Dean of International Campus, BEN Shenglin, Dean of ZIBS, along with leaders from other units and industry representatives included LIU Bingwen, General Manager of Industrial Bank Credit Card Center, and SHEN Enguang, Co-CEO of LianLian Global, participated in the ceremony. The ceremony began with the singing of the Zhejiang University anthem.


 


Li Hanying delivered the opening remarks, welcoming the new students on behalf of the International Campus. Using the acronym DREAM, he shared five key words—Dedication, Resilience, Empathy, Ambition, and Mindfulness—with the students. He encouraged them to pursue their dreams with determination, develop a global perspective, respect diverse cultures, and contribute actively to society and the world. He highlighted the International Campus as a hub for knowledge, ideas, and inspiration, where students can broaden their horizons and forge lasting friendships. He hope that the students will relentlessly strive for personal growth and unlock their full potential during their academic journey.



BEN Shenglin began his welcome remarks by asking, Why choose ZIBS, a young business school? He introduced its three strategic pillars—globalization, digitalization and ecosystem, and called on students to join in building a science & technology-focused premier global business school from China. He highlighted the theme of this academic year, Grit For Sustainable Progress, as the guiding focus. ZIBS, as a young business school, aspires to draw inspiration from top business schools and strives for continual progress. He looks forward to working with each ZIBSer to realize their dreams and shape the future.



QU Lijuan and SHEN Enguang jointly unveiled ZIBS-Lianlian Student Practice Base. QU Lijuan encouraged students to foster innovation, interdisciplinary skills, and leadership throughout their studies, wishing them success along the way. SHEN Enguang expressed excitement for future collaborations with ZIBS and hoped that students would strengthen their leadership and cross-disciplinary abilities through hands-on experiences, building a solid foundation for their future careers.


 


In the Launching Ceremony of 2024 New Semester, BEN Shenglin, ZIBS Program Directors, and student representatives jointly pushed the lever, marking the start of the new academic year. Leaders from International Campus and ZIBS also presented emblems to new faculty and student representatives, encouraging them to view this as the beginning of their journey toward excellence in the years ahead.


 


Associate Professor Raymond So shared his personal journey of discovering and growing with ZIBS, captivated by its innovative spirit and dedication to sustainable development. He encouraged the students to embrace new challenges, push the limits of knowledge, and unlock the vast potential for personal growth throughout their academic journey.



CAI Yuanyao, a new student from iMF program, shared his pride and sense of duty as a member of Zhejiang University. He expressed his eagerness to embrace the Seeking Truth, Pursuing Innovation motto as he tackles the opportunities and challenges ahead and looks forward to making his mark at ZIBS. Alicia Rajomarison, a student from GCM program and president of the International Students Council, shared her vibrant experiences at ZIBS, encouraging the newcomers to make the most of their time by exploring new knowledge, building friendships across cultures, and broadening their horizons while developing their skills. Industry representative LIU Bingwen, a ZIBS Executive Education program alumnus, reflected on the strong partnership between ZIBS and Industrial Bank, urging students to seize opportunities, continuously improve themselves, and contribute to future financial innovation.


 


ZIBS is dedicated to building a science & technology-focused, digital business school and promoting a global, cross-disciplinary talent development model. In today's fast-changing technological landscape, how should new ZIBSers approach their studies, innovation, and future practice? In his keynote speech, WU Fei spoke on AI-Driven Interdisciplinary: A New Paradigm for Innovative Research. He explained the core technologies behind generative AI and shared examples of how large language models are driving innovation across fields. As AI continues to reshape industries, he encouraged students to actively leverage these tools for transformation and reinvention. His insightful lecture broadened the students' perspectives and offered valuable guidance for their future exploration in AI.



The event has come to a close, but the journey for New ZIBSers to Connect the World and Shape the Future is just beginning. Let's move forward and embrace the new chapter at ZIBS!
