As the tide of Web 3.0 surges across the globe, we stand on the cusp of a new era defined by innovative technologies like blockchain, decentralized finance (DeFi), and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This summer, several students from ZIBS dove into the world of Web 3.0 through the Web 3.0 Internship Programme launched by Cyberport Hong Kong. Join us as we follow their footsteps in this vibrant internship journey:

MCS 2023

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Tevau, a fintech company under Talentre Limited, located in Cyberport, a leading tech incubator in Hong Kong SAR. Among a diverse group of interns from Hong Kong's local universities, Zhejiang University and Stanford University,  I spent two months immersed in one of the most dynamic financial hubs in the world as part of the Web 3.0 Internship Program 2024 by Cyberport.  At Tevau, which leverages both Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies to provide financial solutions to the developing economies, I applied the knowledge and skills gained from my MCS program and other experiences at ZIBS.

A practice ground for everything I had absorbed at ZIBS

In the marketing and branding department at Tevau, I contributed to developing fundamental marketing strategies, sourcing, competitor analysis, and managing social media accounts. My academic background from the MCS program, covering social, cultural, and business aspects including international business, relations, marketing, and innovation, proved crucial as I navigated a new industry and supported Tevau's global mission. Additionally, my experience at the ZIBS China-Africa Center as a social media intern provided a solid foundation to hone my skills. I was also entrusted with assisting in the selection of brand ambassadors at Tevau and drafting a comprehensive guide for them, which included outlining responsibilities, proposing the rewards structure, and ensuring alignment with the company's objectives and values.

Enrichment Activities

A key highlight of the internship was the enrichment activities at Cyberport, where we engaged with industry leaders from Animoca Brands, DigiFT, Preface, and Web3 Harbour. Also, memorable fun events like the Web3 gaming night with The Sandbox, where we learned to build within their platform. Pitch sessions with Web3 startup founders offered valuable insights into blockchain entrepreneurship, and ZIBS workshops on Public Speaking, Start-ups, and Negotiation gave me the confidence to participate fully.

Culturally

Exploring Hong Kong SAR's blend of tradition and innovation through its architecture, antique stores, markets, and galleries served as a reminder of the forward-thinking communities being built at both ZIBS and Cyberport.

One of the most valuable lessons

One of the most valuable lessons I learned was adaptability, a skill reinforced by several of my MCS program courses, especially the Business Culture course. This experience expanded my professional network and friendships, solidified my passion for entrepreneurship, and motivated me to explore how technology can solve global challenges. I am proud to be part of ZIBS, a school that empowers students with the tools and mindset to innovate and lead in a rapidly evolving world.

In the summer break, I had the opportunity to intern at Cyberport, a leading digital technology hub in Hong Kong that supports the growth of tech startups in Hong Kong. Cyberport's internship program connects local and international students to intern in their incubated startups within its ecosystem. Thanks to ZIBS's network, I managed to apply to this internship opportunity that takes place annually.

During my internship, I gained valuable insights into the Web 3.0 landscape, exploring various business models centered around blockchain, DeFi, tokenization, and smart contracts. Beyond the professional experience, living in Hong Kong allowed me to immerse myself in a city where historical architecture coexists with a vibrant food culture and rapid technological advancements in the Web 3.0 space. This combination made my time here both enriching and memorable.

One of the key lessons I learned from this internship was the importance of agility. In a fast-evolving environment, I learnt to quickly adapt and work effectively with local employees in the company. This internship not only deepened my expertise in the web 3 space, but also refined my skills to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced, globalized landscape.

Regarding my internship experience, it was truly amazing. I learned a lot about the Web 3.0 industry, not only from working at a Web 3.0 startup but also through the various events, company visits, and enrichment activities organized by Cyberport. I also really enjoyed working with my team - my colleagues were incredibly smart, friendly, and cooperative. It's definitely an experience I would recommend to students in future cohorts.
