The second meeting of ZIBS IAB was chaired by Han Seung-soo, Chairman of ZIBS IAB and Chairman of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA). The meeting saw the participation of esteemed IAB members, including Yaseen Anwar, former governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan; Gregory Guyett, CEO of Global Banking & Markets, HSBC; Sergio Agapito Lires Rial, lead director in large listed US and Brazilian companies; Anita Bhatia, former Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director, UN Women. Besides, BEN Shenglin, Dean of ZIBS; QU Haidong, Vice Dean of ZIBS; as well as other ZIBS leadership members and special guests participated in the meeting.
Han Seung-soo delivered the opening remarks. By pointing out the significant challenges brought about by global economic uncertainty, he stressed that IAB will endeavor to make ZIBS one of the best business schools in China in the short to medium term and in the world in the long term. Meanwhile, he highlighted China's rise in the digital economy, expressing anticipation for ZIBS to actively contribute to teaching and research through its three strategic pillars: globalization, digitalization, and ecosystem.
In celebration of ZIBS 5th anniversary, BEN Shenglin provided a comprehensive overview of ZIBS since its inception. He outlined ZIBS goal of becoming a science & technology-focused premier global business school from China. He further elaborated on ZIBS vision, current status, core priorities, and future focus, and expressed anticipation for the IAB guidance in shaping the future global development of ZIBS.
Anita Bhatia, former Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director, UN Women, joined the meeting online, expressing concerns on topics such as the balance of breadth and depth of the development, student employment, and the dynamic equilibrium of local growth and international collaboration.
Sergio Agapito Lires Rial highly praised ZIBS achievements in 5 years, particularly highlighting the team's synergy, vitality, and efficient execution. He recommended ZIBS needs to further strengthen its identity and emphasized appreciation for ZIBS goal of becoming a science & technology-focused premier global business school from China, suggesting practical manifestations in academic research and student cultivation.
Gregory Guyett paid a special attention to student career development. He suggested that in the next 5 years, ZIBS should prioritize career development as a crucial goal and recommended placing a greater emphasis on business ethics, especially in the application of technology, within its courses and programs.
Yaseen Anwar expressed concerns about the admission ratio and advised ZIBS to leverage the diversity and global coverage of the IAB to expand its international influence.
In conclusion, Han Seung-soo addressed concerns about talent recruitment, financial resource mobilization, and the essential role of the IAB at ZIBS.
BEN Shenglin provided detailed responses to the questions raised by IAB members, actively exchanging views with the participants. There was also an in-depth discussion on further improving the composition and effectiveness of IAB.
The meeting also featured distinguished guests, including Ricardo Berzoini, former Chief Minister of Institutional Relations of the Brazilian Presidential Office; Thomas Law, President of the Brazil-China Sociocultural Institute (Ibrachina); Marc Lussy, Senior Advisor of F10 Fintech Incubator & Accelerator; Abdulrahmaan Al Ansaari, Chairman and Founder of Multiverse; Zhikai Xie, Co-Founder of the China-Britain Artificial Intelligence Association (CBAIA); etc. Their insights provided invaluable recommendations for the future development of ZIBS.
