Establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center

On May 25, 2022, partners of the ZIBS ecosystem, Zhejiang Association of Financial Technology (ZAFT), Beijing Frontier Institute of Regulation and Supervision Technology (FIRST), China Brazil Entrepreneur Council (CEBC), China Brazil Social and Cultural Institute (IBRAChina), and others jointly organized the ZIBS IBRAChina MOU signing ceremony and the establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center online.

Dilma Rousseff, former President of Brazil, BEN Shenglin, Dean of ZIBS and President of ZAFT, Thomas Law, Chairman of IBRAChina, and representatives from Latin American countries such as Colombia and Argentina, QU Haidong, Vice Dean of ZIBS, LIU Yi, Secretary General of ZAFT, as well as industry representatives and experts from Lianlian International, Hyperchain Technology, Haixing Power and others attended the event. This event is hosted by Rodrigo Moura, Director of International Relations at IBRAChina and Brazilian student of ZIBS Master of China Studies Program.

In his opening speech, BEN Shenglin stated that IBRAChina has always been committed to promoting the culture of China, Brazil, and other Portuguese speaking countries. It is an important bridge to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Latin America, broadening the path of cultural exchange between China and Latin America, and promoting economic and trade investment between China and Latin America. He hopes to establish meaningful cooperation with IBRAChina through joint research projects in key areas such as new technologies, digital trade, financial technology, and digital cultural industries through the establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center. Other forms of interactions are also to be carried out in areas such as talent cultivation, teacher-student exchanges, conference activities, corporate visits, scientific research and innovation, etc., effectively bringing more opportunities to the bilateral development of cultural, social and economic cooperation.

Dilma Rousseff expresses gratitude to ZIBS and its partner organizations for organizing this event and best wishes for the 125th anniversary of Zhejiang University. She stated that the establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center will further enhance the relationship between Brazil and China, and promote exchanges between the two countries. She hopes to expand the cooperation between Latin American countries such as Brazil and China through this seminar.

In the meeting, BEN Shenglin and Thomas Law signed MOU on behalf of ZIBS and IBRAChina respectively. This signing marks the establishment of a stable cooperative relationship between ZIBS and IBRAChina, and the joint pursuit of future development.

Dilma Rousseff announced the official establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center while BEN Shenglin did the unveiling. Rodrigo Moura gave introductive remarks about the relevant situations and aspects.

During the exchange session, the attending guests shared their views on topics such as ZIBS-IBRAChina cooperation and the establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center to promote cooperation and development between China and Latin American countries.
Sergio Marcelo Cesarín, coordinator of the Asia Pacific & India Research Center at the National University of Tred de Fabrero in Argentina, stated that China and Argentina have carried out many collaborations around "pragmatism continuity diversity and expansion" (PCDA), and believed that under the framework of the new multilateral rules "community with a shared future for mankind", greater development will be achieved in the future; Professor Wen Wu of ZIBS proposed that the establishment of a cooperative relationship between ZIBS-IBRAChina will make greater contributions in financial infrastructure.

Michael Sung, Director of the ZIBS Institute of Digital Finance Innovation (IDFI), Víctor Gabriel Rodríguez, Chairman of the Latin American Graduate Program at the University of São Paulo, and Vladimir Pomar, Coordinator of the China Research Institute at the Federal University of Santa Catalina in Brazil, all agree that the collaboration between ZIBS IBRAChina and the establishment of the ZIBS Latin America Center will further promote cooperation between China and Latin American countries in more fields.

Thomas Law believes that this signing of MOU signifies that IBRAChina has taken an important step in promoting cultural integration among different countries; Paula Andrea Ramirez Barbosa, lawyer at the University of Iwag in Colombia, stated that this united and dynamic relationship will become a valuable asset in the knowledge field of both countries.
