Admission Requirements

Applicant Nationality Requirements

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens of good moral character and health, free from infectious diseases or conditions that may impede normal study. They should meet the following criteria as per Document No. 12 (2020) from the Ministry of Education of the PRC:

Applicants who have renounced Chinese citizenship and obtained foreign citizenship must have done so before April 30, 2019, and have lived abroad for more than 2 years between April 30, 2019, and April 30, 2023 (at least 9 months abroad per year, proven by entry and exit stamps, counts as one year).

Applicants born abroad with automatic foreign citizenship, whose parents are Chinese or one parent is Chinese, must have a parent with foreign permanent residency obtained before the applicant's birth. These applicants must have lived abroad for more than 2 years from April 30, 2019, to April 30, 2023 (at least 9 months abroad per year, evidenced by entry and exit stamps, counts as one year).

Language Requirements

Non-native English speakers must provide an English language test score. Required scores are DuoLingo (minimum 105), TOEFL (minimum 80), IELTS (6.5 or higher), or equivalent proof of proficiency. ZIBS' TOEFL DI Code is C603, and the TOEFL MyBest score is accepted.

Admission Process

Admission to the program is competitively based on academic performance in senior high school, language proficiency, and interview performance. The university will announce the preliminary admission list in different batches according to the applications received. Applicants can also monitor their admission status through the Online Application System.

Required Documents

Applicants must use the Online Application System for International Students of Zhejiang University. Ensure to fill in the information accurately and upload the required documents, either original or notarized scanned copies.

    Valid Passport: Provide a photocopy of your passport.

    Senior High School Diploma or Pre-graduation Certificate: If still in high school, submit a pre-graduation certificate. Upon registration, provide the original or a notarized copy of your high school diploma.

    Transcript: Submit transcripts of all senior high school courses.

    Language Proficiency Certificates: Non-native English speakers must submit Duolingo, TOEFL, IELTS scores, or equivalent. Native speakers are exempt.

    Personal Statement: Discuss study experience, application reasons, and strengths. Limit to 800 words.

Award-Winning Certificates: If applicable, include certificates for academic achievements or awards from high school.

· Additional Documents Required for Applicants Who Renounced Chinese Citizenship and Became Foreign Citizens: Applicants in this category must submit (1) a cancellation certificate of Chinese citizenship, (2) their current citizenship certificate, and (3) the Exit and Entry Record from their passport, covering the period from April 30, 2019, to April 30, 2023.

· Additional Documents Required for Applicants Who Acquired Foreign Citizenship at Birth with Chinese Citizen Parents: Applicants in this category are required to provide (1) their birth certificate from the foreign country, (2) their Chinese parents' permanent residency certificate from the foreign country, obtained prior to the applicant's birth, and (3) the Exit and Entry Record from their passport, covering the period from April 30, 2019, to April 30, 2023.

· Additional Documents Required for Applicants Under the Age of 18: Applicants who will be under the age of 18 by September 1, 2023, should submit (1) a Letter of Guardian Guarantee (the guardian must be an adult residing in Hangzhou), and (2) a notarized copy of the Guardianship Authorization from the applicant's parents.

Further Details

1.International Standard Test Results: We accept results from international standard tests (e.g., SAT, IB, GCE A-LEVEL, ACT, STPM, GED, UEC, etc.) or university entrance exams from the applicant's home country. If available, applicants are strongly encouraged to provide their relative ranking or percentile within their school, especially if only school test scores are submitted.

2.Language and Notarization of Application Materials: All submitted documents must be in Chinese or English. Please ensure that copies are notarized.

3.Submission Method: Do not send hard copies or email copies of application materials. Materials sent via post or email will not be reviewed or processed.

4.Supplementary Materials and Interviews: Zhejiang University reserves the right to request additional materials or conduct a video interview with applicants if deemed necessary.

Post-admission Instructions

Tuition Payment

Applicants receiving the Pre-Admission Notice must prepay the first year's tuition fee via the Online Application System within the specified time stated on the Notice. If online payment is not feasible, payment must be made to the University’s Bank Account, and the remittance slip uploaded to the System. Failure to prepay within the specified period will result in cancellation of the pre-admission.

The official Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202 Form), and other admission documents will be mailed after confirming receipt of the prepaid tuition and the release of the University Calendar.

Notes:

·When wiring the tuition fee, include the application serial number and applicant’s name.

·The university reserves places only for those who prepay the first year's tuition. Prepaid tuition for the first year is non-refundable if a student withdraws after registration or leaves for personal reasons.

·Prepaid tuition is non-refundable for students disqualified by the university due to failure to meet registration requirements.

Registration

Admitted applicants must register as per the schedule in the admission notice. Original graduation certificates and English proficiency certificates are mandatory at registration. Failure to provide these will lead to disqualification. Undergraduate programs typically start in late August or early September. Exact dates will be in the Admission Notice.

Medical Insurance

Fee: 800 RMB/academic year

As per Ministry of Education regulations, international students studying for a semester or longer must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland China. This is a mandatory requirement for registration.Failure to obtain the required insurance will result in non-registration.Detailed instructions for insurance application and purchase will be provided prior to registration. Compliance with these instructions is essential.

Notice: This insurance does not cover expenses related to pre-existing physical or mental conditions present before arrival in China for the current study period.

Financial Supports

ZIBS offers a variety of scholarships to international students with outstanding potential. Scholarships are disbursed to students after their physical arrival on the international campus. However, students must pay the full tuition fee upon registration. Applicants who are offered admission and are interested in applying for financial aid should complete the Scholarship Application Form and send it to the ZIBS Admissions Office at zibsadmissions@intl.zju.edu.cn.
